What is a double-sided poster?

The most widely collected movie poster is arguably the one sheet poster. Modern one sheet posters printed some time from 1984 onwards measure about 27x40 inches (approx. 69x102 cm), and are mostly double-sided.

A double-sided poster has a lighter shade (about 60 – 70% lighter) of the main image printed on the reverse. They are intended for display in lightboxes at cinemas or theatres. When lit from behind, the light bleeds through to the front of the poster and creates a more vivid and vibrant image.

As the technology used to create double-sided posters is complex and costly, they are unlikely to be counterfeit. Most reproductions that try to pass off as original posters are printed on one side only. Unlike licensed reproductions, these fake reprints violate intellectual property (IP) rights and have close to no value.
